چکیده

The primary goal to this research is to develop a principled approach to sampling in the context of a spatiotemporally dynamic feature. We examine the concepts of registration and association of sparse data in non-static environments with the aim of developing generative models and low-order descriptions to improve localization relative to the dynamic feature, which in turn will improve methods for adaptive sampling. The motivation for this work is in the study of coherent structures within the ocean, e.g., ocean fronts and Lagrangian Coherent Structures (LCS), and how intelligent sampling can help provide an understanding of these complex phenomena. We additionally examine the way that dynamic ocean phenomenon not only provide the features of interest to sample, but also provide the information to generate an environmental representation that drives intelligent adaptation for sampling. The proposed work lies at the intersection of robotics, AI, nonlinear dynamics, perception, network sciences, and ocean science.

Integrated Characterization and a Tuning Strategy for the PVT Analysis of Representative Fluids in a Gas Condensate Reservoir

Gas condensate reservoirs are characterized by a distinctive retrograde behavior and potential for condensate drop out during production and sampling. Efficient modeling of gas condensate reservoir requires careful phase behavior studies of samples collected prior to and during the production life of reservoir. In this work, an integrated characterization and tuning algorithm is proposed to ana...

Numerical Study of Progressive Collapse in Framed Structures: A New Approach for Dynamic Column Removal (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Progressive collapse is a situation where local failure of a primary structural component leads to the collapse of adjoining members which, in turn, leads to additional collapse. Hence, the total damage is disproportionate to the original cause. The most common local failure in framed structure is assumed to be column failure. In this paper, a new approach for dynamic column removal in framed s...

The Effect of Axial Force Variations on Nonlinear Modeling and Seismic Response of Reinforced Concrete Structures

In order to increase the accuracy of evaluating seismic response of structures, it is critical to conduct dynamic analyses based upon precise nonlinear models being as consistent as possible with the real conditions of corresponding structures. The concentrated plasticity model including one elastic element and two nonlinear spring elements at both ends has been considered within the research c...

Glider Path-Planning for Optimal Sampling of Mesoscale Eddies

Ocean gliders constitute an important advance in the highly demanding ocean monitoring scenario. Their efficiency, endurance and increasing robustness make these vehicles an ideal observing platform for many long term oceanographic applications [1]. However, they have proved to be also useful in the opportunistic short term characterization of dynamic structures. Among these, mesoscale eddies a...

Model identification and dynamic analysis of ship propulsion shaft lines

Dynamic response analysis of mechanical structures is usually performed by adopting numerical/analytical models. Finite element (FE) modeling as a numerical approach plays an important role in dynamic response analysis of complex structures. The calculated dynamic responses from FE analysis are only reliable if accurate FE models are used. There are many elements in real mechanical structures w...
